Mockingjay Countdown!

There is nothing quite like becoming acquainted to a new space. You walk in to a blank canvas and begin to imprint yourself like an artist wielding his or her brush. Only instead of oils or acrylics your medium is posters, beds, candles, books, all the things that we carry with us from domicile to domicile because they represent who we are. But what objects truly represent you?
Look around wherever you are living now. What have you brought with you since the beginning? What have picked up along the way? What kind picture are these pieces painting of you?
What seemingly useless object can you not bring yourself to let go of? Those few items that prominently reappear in our surroundings probably can tell us something about our past, present, and future. Recollect any time you let go of such an item and felt either release or regret. Perhaps if we remember the object you can finally leave it behind.

good post. Well, as you know, I am not very sentimental about my possessions, and usually have no scruples in throwing things away. However, when giving my room a major cleaning, basically the only things I can't get rid of are my books - especially the original copies of the books that I loved when I was little. Also, my blankie. And that's basically it. I am using my orange coat rack in my room right now. I guess I just like to have somewhere to hang my hat! Well now that I think about it, I have used the same red, monogrammed pillowcases since Freshman year of college. I would probably have a hard time getting rid of those. I got them especially for my dorm room, and they seemed so special since they were going to be monogrammed.

So those are my items I guess. Interpret them as you will!

Also, I will NOT recollect a time I let such an item go. Lol. Obviously did not read the last sentence before posting. :)

Also, I can't even think of such an occasion! I can get rid of just about anything (sans Blankey and books) and not regret it. AND I WILL NEVER GET RID OF THEM.

That's an interesting off shoot of the post, and something i wonder about every now and then: why do some people (like me) hoard everything and other (like you) keep almost nothing? Which is better? Would a happy medium be best? Or is it just another facet of our personalities that isn't good or bad and has benefits and downsides on both ends?
If I didn't know you I'd think you weren't a sentimental person. That's why i keep things, so i can remember a specific moment in my life. But maybe the truth is that people remember in different ways. What makes a person remember? I think I just like to hold things when I'm remembering like a talisman almost. That's what i see my objects as, almost like spirit guides to the past (haha, that sound strange but you get it). What makes you feel nostalgic?

So philosophical! I love it! These are all really good questions. I am a pretty sentimental person, and yet my tendency to not get attached to my things would def lead one to think otherwise. I guess I don't need objects to serve as memory inducers. The objects I keep are basically comfort objects, and do not have specific memories attached to them. Maybe I prefer in inward reflection on memory, and you like to have the outward physical basis when reflecting on memory. idk - definitely this is something to think on.
