So I know that I just did a real It's Going to Be a Thing post, but I wanted to also do an update on one of my previous It's Going to Be a Thing posts. Specifically I am speaking about my June "It's Going to Be a Thing: Japan Edition" post. This was the post where I said that I could see girls wearing men's jeans becoming a thing. I've discussed this with Allison and she is doubtful of my evidence (which probably rightfully so), but I am going to stubbornly stand firm here and say that this could very well be the beginning of the girls wearing mens jeans trend becoming a widespread thing.
Recently around Twinkle Town (or New York City?) we have seen Miss Katie Holmes (of the "Mrs. Kate Cruise" fame) wearing decidedly masculine jeans (Tom's maybe?). - Ok, I would just like to openly state here that I realize I used a lot of paranthetical statements in that last sentence. Sorry about that, I know that can get confusing - I always got marks taken off for not writing clearly in High School (sorry Dr. Tilley!). I just have too many thoughts going on and I apparently can't get them out in a way that's not confusing to other people! But anywho! My questionable writing skills aside -
Pegged or not, these jeans have been a widely debated and oft criticized (even by Tim Gunn!) choice.
I recognize that just because they are being worn by a celebrity means nothing about their actual state of trend-ness. Also, the fact that they are more often than not criticized negatively could just strengthen the "They're not actually a trend" state of thinking. But I don't know - any press is good press maybe? People are being exposed to this idea and I'm thinking that it has a possibility of catching on! Also, I would like to say that in a way my original post on this subject has already been validated, because in looking at what I actually said - my main prediction was that "we would be seeing some for realz mens jeans on some ladies at some point in the near future". And in semantics alone, I have already been proven right - just with only one person who happens to be a celebrity ha ha.
So everyone be on the lookout - I predict that this will be something you will be seeing more and more of in the months to come.

I know that you're practically vindicated in the fact that it seems to be a trend...at least with Katie Holmes...but I really REALLY hope that girls in guys jeans doesn't become a serious trend. We already have "the boyfriend cut" jean- which is much looser, but I just don't enjoy the bagginess of mens jeans. They're not made for the bodies of females! We don't need extra long zippers on our crotch! NO! (I also address that issue to The Gap- really, they could make the zippers just a teeny tiny bit shorter and I would be much happier.)
Now, I think I may be a person of mediums because I don't like the skinny jean (too tight! too tight!!!) and I don't like the boy-jeans (too loose!!!) but I do like it when there's a nice level of balance. Wide-legged jean, you make me happy. Flare jean, yes, I still own many a pair of you. Bootcut, you are classic and delightful with high heels.
I could probably make an ode to bluejeans.
What was my main point? Oh. Just that I honestly hope this does not become a trend. I endorse wearing certain articles of mens clothing- I'm a fan of wearing a guys button down shirt- something about that seems risque and hot to me- and wearing boycut underwear- that's good too. But, I think, we need moderation!
While the boy jeans may have been way cuter than you would think on japanese girls, i know from EXPERIENCE that americans have different bodies, else explain to me that horrible day in Uniqlo where nothing fit me even in the large sizes! These jeans really wouldnt look as good on curvier americans. That being said - I still want it to be a trend. :) It will be ugly, but then one of my "it's going to be a things" will have been right! It's a totally selfish hope - I'll admit it. I take solace in the fact that this trend would most def. be one of the very short-lived, flash-in-the-pan type trends. So we wouldnt really have to put up with it for all that long. I really hope I don't have to eat my words just then.
